Launching Dress a Girl!

We had such a fabulous sunny summer evening at our Dress a Girl Launch Party on Friday 25th May with bubbly, great eats from the lovely Coach & Horses, good company, winning photos by the ever supportive Jim Hawkins - & sewing of course! We were so chuffed to be joined by local representatives from four African charities, Ugandan Omushana, Kenyan Sanchat and Zambian Fiwila & Build It International. We're so looking forward to collaborating with them to send out dresses to little girls in need. First to take dresses out is Gill Castle from Omushana who is travelling to Uganda in July. It would be great to have a decent group of dresses to send out with her so we hope you'll all join in and help...

The Space to Sew Team excelled themselves by teaching folk how to make pillowcase dresses in two back-to-back sessions each (thanks so much ladies!). Huge thanks are also due to Denise McGowan of Evanji Sugaring, who first mentioned the Dress a Girl campaign to Domini and who kindly rolled up her sleeves to add her sewing teaching expertise to the rest. Denise you are such a star as always. Thank you.

Greatly appreciated was Jim Hawkins gentle photographic touch: as well as the glorious results pictured on this blog post, we were amazed by the sensitivity with which he captured the essence of the occasion, always there but without intruding, offering his expertise but without interrupting the flow. Thank you Jim. You are a true gentleman and the evening would not have been the same without your reassuring presence.

Other guests included the talented Beth Billingsley of Desert Orchid Corsets and her partner Richard Lavelle (Beth, thanks again for donating that HUGE bag of trimmings!), the lovely Viv Wyatt from Clear Design and Charlotte Vamos with daughter Willow from the beautiful Hambrook House; plus many others I ve not mentioned by name! Thank you all so much for your support and participation - and for the lovely dresses! What a great start to our first Dress a Girl Week. May the dresses keep coming and may all those making them have as much fun as we did on this lovely summer's night..."
